When we design our footwear, the "last" plays a key role in overall function and comfort, yet is the least understood aspect of shoe design. How is this innovative? Read on to find out.

The last explained: An architect uses a blue print as a design for an overall project. In footwear design, a last is our blueprint to follow. It is a hard plastic form that develops the fit, shape, size, style and functional characteristics of our footwear.

The JB Goodhue difference: While most companies use regular lasts that do not always follow the design of the foot, we develop our own lasts to provide maximum room at key measurement areas of the foot. This ensures ample room inside for the foot to remain comfortable, eliminating the pinching that takes place in narrower lasts. The Biotech® comfort lasts we use also feature an "off centre" design that imitates the correct anatomical configuration where the ankle and foot meet toward the inside of the joint.

The extra deep toe box accommodates orthotic devices. An extra long heel counter provides torsional stability. And a unique rocker design offers extra toe spring and requires less energy to walk. Now, when the other comfort features are added (contoured foot beds, pillow cushioning, etc.) they work with the "off centre" last to fit the natural design of your feet.

The next step in superior comfort and flexibility is found in the JB Goodhue Duraflex® collection. This innovative, layered construction offers flexibility and improved cushioning, while reducing weight.

JB Goodhue has developed an exclusive process of combining welted technology and injection, using soft PU for the mid sole and rubber for the outsole. This process gives you the benefits of support and stability related to welted constructions and the flexibility found in the injection process. It also provides outstanding oil and slip resistance, along with improved traction in cold weather over other injection technologies. These features make our Duraflex® construction the most comfortable and lightweight boots of its kind in the industry.

JB Goodhue`s exclusive Weltrek II® construction combines the age-old method of Goodyear Welt with proprietary features and superior components resulting in ultra-comfortable, lightweight, flexible footwear that is "Built for Work"™.

JB Goodhue’s exclusive Energex II® corner-stitch construction consists of hand sewing to the outsole for maximum flexibility and comfort. This, combined with our Duraflex® construction and our G5™ cushioned breathable footbed, make our new Energex II® boots among the lightest and most comfortable in the industry.

Some boots wear out too easily. JB Goodhue WorkLytes® provide lasting performance, while minimizing fatigue. Our tough welted construction makes them durable. Lightweight materials with a Micro Abrasion Resistant compound in the outsoles make them long lasting and easy to wear. Plus, they`re equipped with a G3™ cushioned breathable footbed to provide maximum comfort. WorkLytes® offer a small price tag, but they`re big on value and performance.

JB Goodhue has a complete line of internal and external MetGuard® footwear. Our exclusive external and internal MetGuards® combine a hinged metal plate with a steel safety toe, providing flexible protection and increased comfort. This, combined with our Duraflex® construction and PU/rubber high heat 300°C outsole, makes JB Goodhue MetGuards® the most flexible, lightweight and comfortable boots in the industry.

Our metal-free boots with our Armor Guard® formula are developed with a unique layering process that ensures maximum protection from impact. Completely metal-free footwear, each shoe is passed through a metal detector in the final stages of manufacturing to double check for no metal whatsoever. All of our metal-free boots use a multi-layered Kevlar® plate for the ultimate in protection, while maintaining the flexibility of the boot.

ProDri® is a membrane that allows moisture to leave the boot while preventing water from coming in, creating thermal stability and keeping the foot cool and dry.
